About Knights For Life
Formed in Louisiana in June of 2003, Knights For Life was created
to coordinate Pro-Life information, for Pro-Life education, and to
provide guidance to Council Pro-Life Chairmen/Couples. All Brother
Knights who are interested in taking a more active role in Pro-Life
activities are invited to join. All wives are invited to participate.
Our first objective is getting a solid and consistent Pro-Life
message delivered at EVERY monthly Council meeting.
If that were to happen regularly across the Order, THINGS
WOULD CHANGE!
We have Talking Points available each month for Council Pro-Life
Chairman to use. They are on-line or you can join the E-Mail list for
convenience. We also want to encourage all GK's to make sure your
Council has a Pro-Life Chairman, that he has time to address each
monthly meeting, and that he avails the Council of the many
Purpose and Objectives of
Knights For Life
Pope John Paul II taught us: “Abortion and euthanasia are crimes
which no human law can claim to legitimize. There is no obligation
in conscience to obey such laws; instead there is a grave and clear
obligation to oppose them by conscientious objection. It is therefore
never licit to obey them, or to take part in a propaganda campaign in
favor of such law, or vote for it.”(1) Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson
has stated, “Pope John Paul II has asked Catholics to begin a `Great
Campaign for Life.' This is a request the Knights of Columbus is taking
very seriously.”(2) In another document Anderson comments on Roe:
”It is a decision that ignores the truth: The truth about unborn
children, about women, and most of all, about human life and
human nature itself. Even Norma McCorvey - the `Roe' of Roe v. Wade -
now rejects the decision and the culture of abortion on demand that it
established.”(3)
We as Knights For Life are committed to education about the sanctity
of Life, especially the unborn-and communication of these truths to
our Brothers and our families. United, we will work towards greater
Catholic civic responsibility in order to build a new Culture of Life.
Being honest about the root causes of this tragic situation we are in is
critical if we hope to affect a substantial change. Prior to 2004, Catholics
as a voting block voted for the pro-abortion candidate in the last several
Presidential elections. This fact repeats itself endlessly in State and
Congressional elections. The sad reality is that the duration of the abortion
holocaust is prolonged by Catholics who vote for pro-abortion candidates.
This can only end with a new generation of Catholics fully educated on the
sanctity of Life before birth. Ignorance sustained by denial is crippling this
nations response to the holocaust of abortion. We must educate ourselves
about WHY we are obligated to always vote for the most Pro-Life candidate,
and what it means to vote with a properly formed and informed Christian
conscience.
The first way we can bring about real change is at the monthly Council
meeting. We have 290 Councils with 35,000+ members in the Louisiana
jurisdiction. Every month is an opportunity for the Pro-Life Council
Chairman to spend just FIVE minutes presenting educational facts about
the unborn and/or discussing important pro-life news. Each month we have
fully prepared Talking Points available for Council Pro-Life Chairman to
use at their meetings. They are on-line and we also have an E-Mail list for
convenience.
Part of our problem stems from the truism “out of sight-out of mind”. Many
Catholics are unaware of the facts about the life of the unborn person and
so each month is a new opportunity to teach. Over time this can have a
tremendous impact. On a national level with 1.7 million members, the
Order has the capacity to lead to a new Culture of Life. Politics alone has
not succeeded. Comprehensive education is The Missing Key of the
We can no longer blindly hope that Catholics will make voting pro-life a
priority in every election if they are not first taught the reasons why they
should. Part of our larger objective is to have enough Knights for Life
Area Coordinators to visit every Council in the state once or twice a year
to make a more complete presentation on the matter and to coordinate
efforts with the Council Pro-Life Chairmen in his area. There are many
valuable Pro-Life resources available from Supreme at no charge that
can be very helpful. We also have a resource guide for all Councils.
For about $200, a Council can have a great pro-life library. The materials
can be lent out and used in groups. Coupled with the substantial resources
available through the KFL web site, there is no reason why any Knight's
family should be left behind. Several other plans are in the works and will
be detailed at the web site. All of this will make the great pro-life work
already being done throughout the Order that much more effective.
The defense and promotion of Life is not the ministry of a few but the
responsibility of all. This task is not too large when we involve our wives
and children. We need everyone united and working together, including
squires.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, parents are the first and primary
teachers of the Faith for their children. We now have age appropriate,
sanctity of life lesson plans on-line for pre-K through 12th grade, so that
our families can learn about God's great gift of Life together.
Let us always pray to Our Lady who gave to us the Word made Flesh,
that we will see and love in the unborn of today what she saw and loved
in her Unborn Son-a Child, made in the image and likeness of God.
Vivat Jesu,

Open letter of thanks to all Brother Knights
March 20, 2008
To all Worthy State Officers, GKs, DDs, ACs, and all Brother Knights:
This is an update on Knights For Life activity since being founded in April 2004 with
approval of then State Deputy Steve Thomas by then State Pro-Life Chairman Ed Jeanfreau.
These results could be duplicated by any State Council and repeated across the
country with a little effort.
Our mission is simple: Find a way to help Crisis Pregnancy Centers save more unborn babies.
Ultrasound machines have become the greatest tool in saving babies but they are expensive
and most CPCs don't have the funds.
FUNDRAISING: Using baby bottles has been done for years across the country. We have a
print out called the ABCs of baby bottle fundraising at our website www.KnightsForLife.org
that can help direct any group to success. Please note this project can be successful with as
few as 3 dedicated people who will cooperate with a CPC. All checks are made out to the
individual CPC, they are all 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable organizations.
From April 2004 to March 2008 Knights For Life, with the cooperation of over 25
Councils and the direct assistance of several dozen brother Knights helped raise
$495,000; including six ultrasound machines for seven Crisis Pregnancy Centers.
ACCESS Pregnancy and Referral Centers (ACCESS) operated by Catholic Charities,
Archdiocese of New Orleans has received over $140,000 from baby bottle fundraising,
enabling them to secure an 80% grant from Focus on the Family for three Ultrasound
machines. In spring 2007 the third machine was installed at their third facility and they
are now saving more babies than ever before. ACCESS is planning to open a fourth Center
in New Orleans. Most Centers also offer STD testing, which is at epidemic levels in young
people today.
Northlake Crisis Pregnancy Center in Covington was the first Center we helped with fundraisers
that became a limited medical facility. This is a requirement to purchase and operate the machine.
As a result of our baby bottle fundraising a very generous person made a $50,000 donation
enabling Northlake to purchase a state of the art GE 4D Ultrasound machine, the same model
used in National Geographics' documentary Life in the Womb.
Restoration PRC in Hammond and Crisis Pregnancy Help Center in Slidell both
received donations the following year from the same donor to Northlake for
renovations and ultrasound machines. KC Councils in Hammond and Slidell help
support these two Centers.
Desormeaux Foundation in Lafayette, LA has had successful baby bottle fundraising in several
parishes to help support the WOMAN'S CENTER in Lafayette.
We want to note that this has been accomplished at no cost to the State Council.
This would not have been possible without the 100% support of our Pastors and the generous
support of parishioners. Thanks to the Knights of Columbus Councils and brother Knights who
helped distribute and collect the bottles.
Vivat Jesu!
![]() Talking Points Program
for Council Pro-Life Chairman
& Area Coordinators
Based on the monthly Council meetings, Knights for Life will have a
Program Cycle of specific monthly points of educational information to impart.
The Program Cycle will be based on the topics that are specific to
certain months. For months that are not specific to a particular pro-life
subject, we will have specific Life before Birth information.
In the 2003 SUPREME KNIGHT’S REPORT, Carl Anderson stated:
"Every council must have an active and dedicated pro-life chaircouple"
And so our first goal is to provide assistance with monthly talking points
along with this website that will help enable the Chairman to be active
and to activate his Council.
Our second objective is for each Council to be visited twice per year
by the KFL area coordinator to give 15-minute presentations. The Council
pro-life chairman will then have 10 monthly Council presentations to make.
Below are the downloads for the monthly talking points.
Right Click on the Month and select "Save target As" Then save document
